out with the ex

I'm so grateful for the relationship I've been able to create with my ex-boyfriend. It was rough going for a few years after our breakup in 2001, but we're finally in a place that allows us to revisit those bases of friendship that first brought us together. We had dinner with his friends tonight (who I miss) and then went out for beers. Perhaps it's the comfort of being with a man who I love and respect, or the confidence he inspires in me, but I was getting a fair bit of attention tonight.

The ex as wing-man: interesting concept. But I don't think I could do it for him. Not yet, anyway.

yja - experiencing his massive endowment was worth the judgement and jibes from you in the 10 years since it happened... believe me. I am sorry and would never have done it had you been in "freshly-broken-up" status.

teh - you shameless flirt. Just my type!

It's great that you still get along with him.

I'm lucky enough to be able to say the same thing about my ex-girlfriends. Just about.

hummmm I wonder if I should sleep with one of your exes that you are not freshly broken up with.
Wait I think I did...ask Jimmy what his name was. I was drunk and I can't remember.

Keep the X in ex by marking him off the list in permanent marker.

Exes just lead to trouble! That's Trouble with a capital 't'!

car@, it really is a thing that has to happen on its own. It can't be forced. We can only try, though, eh?

How do you be friends with your ex? I've always hoped it would work, but never seen it happen. I'm jealous, but I admire that. I figure if you loved someone at one point, they would be a valuable person at least to learn from again.

For me, the process takes years--if it happens at all. I've found it to be a sensitive, almost organic process... it might wither and die, or it might require a period of dormancy. Car@ is right, too: it involves many factors.
