in love with being in love

Many years ago, someone told me that I was "in love with being in love." I took issue with that notion. I found it dismissive. It devalued the fact that I was lonely and was hoping to fall in love and shack up. I thought it was like saying "you're in love with being healthy," or "prosperous," or "happy." Duh.

This idea was addressed in a recent Savage Love column. If what this poor guy wrote to Dan about is true, then I think I finally understand what "in love with love" might mean.

I'm curious to know what y'all think.

I love being in love. The excitement, especially with a new partner, can be such an adrenaline rush. Even after time, being in a good coupling is still a great feeling.
As long as you're "in love with love," and not just "scared to be alone," you're fine.
And if you're scared to be alone, masturbate more!

Wanting a relationship isn't a bad thing. There is nothing wrong with that. It turns bad when you hold on to something for so long that is not good for you...like the guy in the article. I know all too well. (but not about the dog fucking...gross!)

I don't think there's anything wrong with wanting to be in a good relationship...as long as you are not willing to settle for ANY relationship.

I love this part:

"When you realize that you're falling in love with a hopeless mess, NAGS, you don't hang in there, hoping that your love will cure him. It won't. Love is great, love is grand, but love ain't chemotherapy – it's not going to magically turn some sick fucker into a healthy fucker."

I think Dan is right. If you're not feeling the love, you're not getting the love. Are you feeling it, Mloyd?

I've given up on love. I just eat carbs and take anti-depressants. Hopefully this won't be a long life.

I think we are all in love with the ideal of being in love to some degree.

Well, Natasha, I sometimes feel it from clog, but let's face it: that doesn't keep you warm at night. Or help you take the air conditioner out of your window so you don't freeze your tukus off once fall comes.
Love is stupid and for the weak.

If you can be in love with love, does that mean you can hate hate?

But, that would mean you love love, right?

My brain hurts... I need a drink.
