continuity/intimacy

Let me put on my hack blogger hat for a moment. There was a major continuity problem in lastnight's episode of Studio 60. In "Nevada Day Part I" several members of the show and the network fly on the company jet to Nevada. The exterior shot is (I think) a Falcon business jet... a beautiful small plane. The interior shots don't match--the width of the cabin suggests a much larger commercial passenger airliner.

Poor set choice, people. Awesome episode otherwise!

On yesterday's post about my AWOL weekend date, St. Dickeybird commented, " How can you be fending for yourself on a Saturday?" and listed some popular avenues of hook-up, including the Internet.

I think the Internet is part of the problem. When I look back at my experience, the most common result of meeting someone on the Internet is a quick fuck. I don't usually find fault with that, but when someone comes along with "BF Material" stamped on their forehead, can I be blamed for thinking about a second date? Perhaps. Silly faggot... tricks are for dick!

I know others have landed relationships from the web, but any of my past relationships originated in the non-cyber here-and-now.

Maybe I'm not built for the Internet. I can be a bit shy in person--so meeting someone online gives me courage. And although I don't think that I have intimacy issues, I think the online dating/hook-up world attracts more than its fair share of people who do.

And I usually end up meeting them.

You certainly have an eye for continuity, just not with men! Who can forget the letters you used to deluge the producers of "Friends" with over half-full glasses in one scene that were (magically!) full again the the next scene!

That's a tough dilemma I've never been able to resolve: The quickie that gets relationship potential.

Basically, I decided that any quick hook-up would NOT be relationship material, unless something really amazing happened. Potential B/Gf's didn't get laid right away...

And yesterday, I didn't realize you were talking about having someone meaningful around. I just thought sex.....
as usual.

My tricks don't stand a lot of chance of becoming relationships usually because I do things with them that make me never want to face them in the light of day.
St. Dickeybird said…
So just don't FACE them.

They may seem like "BF material" but that doesn't mean they necessarily are.

These are tough issues you post. I don't have any answers. If you find some, let me know.

MR, I find that the best route is celibacy. It's worked wonders for me and god knows there are many buffets that you could be spending your weekends with instead of trolling around online.

Ice cream also works.

That could work Dickie! :)
I said it before and I'll say it again. Volunteer, join a club or an organized sport. You'll meet a ton of people and probably get asked out on dates by people that have met the real you not the internet you.

Why am I not surprised about Peters response?

I hate to say this, but YJA is right on the money here. I concur.

what about lavalife?

I haven't had much luck with long-term on the Internet either, but I know people who have. You do have more chances of LTR if you hold off on sex, but I can't stand that way of thinking.

Then why do you have so many profiles online, Timmy? Gay.com, S&M.com, PooponMe.com, NothingSpecial.com, the list goes on and on and on.

Personally, I think you're correct. The only way to find something meaningful online is to do something very obscure. Largely because the main stream has found the Internet and pretty much ruined it.

Never underestimate joining something like a soccer team or art classes. You will already have a common point and something to start a conversation.

At the minimum -- what about gay church? The gym!!!

It looked like freakin' Air Force One from the inside. But yep, great episode. Hubby and I kept repeating "I can't BELIEVE they want to cancel this!"

Gay internet life scares me. I'm a-scared for my gay friends. Is it just me? I wuv you guys.

Pablo: LOL (PooponMe.com)

Lavalife is so bland! And hetero.
Try Nerve.com, or some other, less gentrified site.

Wow. An impressive array of thought and feedback. And humour.

I wish I didn't hate sports. The team thing seems a great way to go.

AG: I met my last b.f. at the gym. (Swimming pool, to be exact.)

Say "gym".
